How to configure ZTE-MF180 Umobile

I test up my friend's UMobile broadband using ZTE-MF180 with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Thanks to our friend from Lynx Blog I manage to configure this device and activate the network.

Identify device idProduct and idVendor by key in command below in Terminal. Make sure the device has been plugged into the usb.

sudo lsusb -v

it can be located as hi lighted in image below

Then at Terminal and type below command

gksu gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/15-zte-mf180.rules (as shown in image below)

it will open up gedit Text Editor as shown below.

then key in as below:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb" SYSFS{idProduct}=="0117" SYSFS{idVendor}=="19d2" RUN+=/lib/udev/modem-modeswitch --vendor 0x19d2 --product 0x0117 --type option-zerocd"

then press save button and close it.

Click System -> Preferences -> Network Connections

Click at Mobile Broadband tab

Click Add button

then follow steps as shown in image below:

Lastly unplugged and replug the mobile broadband, wait for a while and click at the network icon at panel bar.
